Properly sized air conditioning is sized to maintain temperature and humidity levels. If you wait until it is HOT in your house a properly sized air conditioning system could take hours to cool to a comfortable temperature. If temperatures are going to be above 80 degrees set your thermostat at a comfortable level and leave it there.
